Sick (fit) notes

Getting a fit note

If you’re unwell and cannot work you may need a fit note (sometimes called a sick note) for your employer

When you need a fit note

7 days or less

You do NOT need a fit note if you cannot work for 7 days or less you will need to complete a Statutory Sick Pay Certificate and hand it to your employer once completed

If your employer askes for evidence for the first 7 days of sickness, a healthcare professional may charge a fee for this. Your employer should pay the fee.

Over 7 days

If you have been unwell and have been unable to work for over 7 days you can request a fit note using the link below, choosing admin query, and then “Fit (sick) note”

Please note that if you have not been seen over the period of your sickness the GP may request that you arrange an appointment to assess you, and they may or may not be able to issue you with a fit note
