If you would like support to manage your weight, you can refer yourself to the free Adult Weight Management Programme available across Wandsworth and Richmond.
You do not need to speak to your GP before referring yourself. Simply complete the self-referral form and the weight management team will contact you to confirm your eligibility and discuss the next steps.
What support is available?
This 12-week programme provides practical support to help you make healthy, sustainable lifestyle changes. It includes:
Nutrition advice from qualified nutrition professionals, covering healthy eating, portion sizes, meal planning, food choices and common nutrition myths.
Physical activity support with qualified instructors, with activities adapted to different abilities and fitness levels.
Behaviour change support to help you set realistic goals and build long-term healthy habits.
Sessions are available in community venues across Wandsworth and Richmond, with online and hybrid options available for those who cannot attend in person. Each weekly session lasts approximately two hours.
Who can access the service?
The programme is available for adults who:
Are aged 18 or over
Have a BMI between 30 and 40
Adults from Black, Asian and minority ethnic backgrounds may be eligible with a BMI between 27.5 and 40
Some people may need a different service and may not be suitable for this programme, including people who are pregnant, currently taking weight loss medication, or those who require specialist weight management support.
Why we are signposting you to this service
Maintaining a healthy weight can have a positive impact on your overall health and wellbeing. Excess weight can increase the risk of health conditions such as type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, joint problems and other long-term conditions.
The Adult Weight Management Service provides structured support to help you make realistic, sustainable changes to your eating habits, physical activity levels and lifestyle. The programme focuses on building healthier habits that can be maintained over time, with support from qualified professionals.
